How we operate during wartime

ICSI | How we operate during wartime

The ICSI Clinic is located in Kyiv, the capital and heart of Ukraine, whose protection is provided by the most modern air defense systems. Therefore, Kyiv is the safest place in Ukraine during the war.

Uninterrupted power supply

The large medical center where the ICSI Clinic is located belongs to the critical infrastructure of the highest level – facilities that require a constant power supply:

●     Planned power outages are not conducted at such facilities;

●     In case of emergency power shutdowns due to damage to the main power line, the medical center is provided with a backup line;

●     Additionally, the ICSI Clinic has its own generators. In case of the medical center’s power shutdown, these generators will maintain the operation of the equipment.

A unique feature of the clinic is the storage of cryopreserved gametes. To safely preserve them, besides the stable operation of freezing equipment, an ample supply of nitrogen is essential. Our reserves for martial law have been substantially increased, creating a stockpile that fulfills all requirements.

Safety during air raids

In designated areas within the facility – the “space between two walls” – comfortable spaces have been arranged for patients and their companions. In the unfortunate event of a building impact, these spaces offer the utmost safety.

In the event of an air raid alert, the clinic promptly relocates its customers and staff to the bomb shelter within the medical center. Built based on Cold War designs, this shelter guarantees high reliability and can fully fulfill its protective function in the face of aerial threats.

Possibility of receiving consultations without visiting the clinic

The ICSI Clinic provides remote support to patients, with doctors always ready to conduct online consultations on any issues. During such a consultation, you can be in any corner of the world with internet coverage. The remote support format minimizes the time spent in Ukraine.

How to get to Kyiv?

While air connections with Ukraine are currently closed, ground transportation remains accessible.

Regular direct bus routes connect the capital of Ukraine with the capitals and major cities of all European countries. International passenger transportation is provided by bus carriers Flixbus, Infobus, Ecolines, Sindbad. Logistics services chart the safest routes from the state border of Ukraine to Kyiv and back, taking into account the current situation.

The most convenient, comfortable transport for traveling long distances is rail:

●     Ukrainian Railways provide direct connection between Kyiv and cities in Poland (Chełm, Przemyśl, Warsaw) and Austria (Vienna);

●     From Prague to Kyiv you can get with a transfer in Przemyśl, where the Czech Regiojet train connects with the Ukrainian Intercity;

●     From Hungary and Slovakia you can get by train to Mukachevo. The connection with Budapest is provided by the Hungarian State Railways “Latorica” train, from Košice – by the Ukrainian Railways train. There is rail and bus connection between Mukachevo and Kyiv;

●     Rail connection also links the capital of Moldova with Kyiv.

Since the beginning of the war, Ukrainian Railways has maintained all train services, implementing improvements in railway infrastructure facilities to align with European standards. Security control at railway stations and facilities has been heightened, with diesel generators installed at key stations for backup power supply and the uninterrupted operation of substations and railway automation.

Over the first year of the war, Ukrainian Railways served over 300 foreign delegations, earning the trust of leaders from EU countries, the UN, and the IAEA.

Before embarking on any means of transport to Ukraine, it is advised to arrange medical insurance and a policy covering war risks.
