Intrauterine insemination in Ukraine (IUI)
Intrauterine insemination, or IUI, is one of the assisted reproductive technologies used in the treatment of infertility. The procedure involves the insertion of prepared sperm from the partner or a donor into the uterus with the aim of achieving natural conception.
The procedure of intrauterine insemination in Ukraine is available at the ICSI Clinic.
Indications for Intrauterine Insemination in Ukraine
In Ukraine, intrauterine insemination (IUI) is prescribed for both couples with infertility and physiologically healthy women who use donor sperm for conception.
The main indications for intrauterine insemination are as follows:
- Cervical factor infertility in women: narrowing or scarring of the cervical tissues.
- Vaginismus: spasms of the vaginal and pelvic floor muscles.
- Presence of antisperm antibodies (immune infertility).
- Ejaculation disorders in men.
- Slightly reduced sperm concentration in men or minor changes associated with their motility.
- Infertility of unclear etiology (after examination, both partners are healthy, but conception does not occur).

How the procedure of intrauterine insemination is conducted in Ukraine:

Selection of the optimal IUI program, and determination of the day closest to ovulation.

Ovarian stimulation is carried out if indications for IUI in a stimulated cycle are identified.

The woman undergoes ultrasound to confirm ovulation, and the man provides sperm 2 hours before the IUI procedure (or thawed cryopreserved sperm). If ovulation onset is confirmed, the prepared sperm is introduced into the uterine cavity using a thin catheter on a gynecological chair.

The duration of stay in Ukraine can be shortened if pre-examination and initiation of stimulation (if needed) are done in the country of residence.
If the man cannot come, his frozen sperm is sent to the ICSI Clinic by a specialized courier company partner. If the man undergoes an examination at the ICSI Clinic but cannot come again on the day of IUI, he provides sperm after examination, and cryopreservation is performed.

The following examinations are required for men:

In addition to gender-specific tests, there are several analyses that both partners need to undergo. These include blood tests for:

– Sexually transmitted infections (results valid for 3 months);

Consultation with a family doctor or therapist may also be necessary, and in cases of chronic illnesses, specialized doctors may be consulted, and for men, a consultation with a urologist.
Before IUI, both partners should refrain from:
