CARRYING OUT IVF IN UKRAINE DURING MARTIAL LAW

ICSI in Ukraine

ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) is an assisted reproductive technology involving the direct injection of a single sperm into the cytoplasm of an egg using a tiny needle (micro-pipette). This method is more effective than the standard IVF procedure, where the egg and sperm spontaneously combine in laboratory conditions.

In Ukraine, the first successful micro-manipulation of ICSI was performed by the embryologist of the ICSI Clinic, M.I. Kononenko. Since 1998, ICSI Clinic has exclusively utilized ICSI within the framework of IVF procedures.

Advantages of ICSI Fertilization

In conventional in vitro fertilization, the egg is placed with a sample of sperm in a culture dish, and the sperm fertilizes the egg independently. This method is used when using sperm of excellent quality.

In extracorporeal fertilization using ICSI, an embryologist selects a single sperm and injects it directly into the egg using a fine needle.

ICSI technology involves the selection and injection of a single sperm into the egg, which is then cultured. After successful fertilization, the embryo at the blastocyst stage is transferred into the uterus.

Currently, the most common technique is IVF with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). According to the latest data from the International Committee for Monitoring Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ICMART report), the use of IVF with ICSI has steadily increased since 1993, and today ICSI is used in over 95% of cycles of assisted reproductive technologies.

FAQ

What is the difference between the standard IVF procedure and the ICSI method?
In standard IVF, spontaneous fertilisation occurs – a large number of motile sperm are placed next to the egg and wait for one of the sperm to penetrate inside on its own. In IVF with ICSI, the best sperm is selected and injected into the egg with a micropipette – the number of fertilised eggs, the resulting embryos and their quality increase.
Can I choose the sex of my baby during IVF by ICSI?
In the case of preimplantation genetic diagnostics, the sex of the embryo is known in advance.
Are there any contraindications to IVF by ICSI?
If a woman’s health condition allows her to bear and give birth to a child, there are no contraindications to IVF with ICSI. The procedure is not performed only if there are general contraindications to pregnancy.
Are there any health risks to conceiving a baby using ICSI?
In terms of the impact on the woman’s body, the IVF+ICSI procedure is no different from standard IVF. There are only standard risks at the stages of ovulation stimulation (in programmes with stimulation) and follicle puncture.
Will the fact that the baby was conceived by ICSI affect the health of the child?
No, children conceived using IVF with ICSI do not differ in health status from children conceived in the traditional way.
