Indications:

Absence of the uterus (congenital or acquired due to surgical interventions).
Pronounced deformities of the uterine cavity or cervix.
Changes in the endometrium leading to a loss of receptivity.

In order to avail surrogacy services in Ukraine, individuals must be in a registered heterosexual marriage.

The combination of a surrogacy program with oocyte or sperm donation is possible, but genetic relatedness to the future child from at least one of the parents is mandatory.

Interaction Algorithm with International Patients

First Contact (Email, Phone Call, Messenger): Gathering information about the medical history of prospective parents, exchanging data, and determining an approximate treatment plan.

Verification of Marriage Certificate: Prospective parents authenticate their marriage certificate in the country of issuance (apostille or consular legalization).

Invitation Preparation by the Clinic: If necessary for obtaining a Ukrainian visa, the clinic prepares an invitation.

Arrival in Kyiv for Examination and Embryo Creation : Scheduled visit for examinations and embryo formation . The clinic offers airport transfer and accommodation (with extra fees).

Signing Treatment Contract and Payment: Prospective parents sign a treatment contract and make an initial payment (approximately 25% of the surrogacy program cost) before departing.

Clinic Procedures: In Ukraine, a surrogacy clinic conducts selection, examination, and preparation of the surrogate mother, embryo transfer, and pregnancy monitoring.

Prospective parents make payments for pregnancy monitoring (4-6 payments every 1.5-2 months).

Delivery: Before or immediately After childbirth, the prospective parents return to Ukraine.

Child Discharge from the Maternity Hospital: The child is discharged from the maternity hospital within 3-7 days of birth.

Birth Certificate Acquisition: Obtaining the child’s birth certificate within 3-5 days of birth — both parents must be present for at least 1 day. The program concludes at this stage.

After Program Completion:

Submitting documents to the embassy of the country of origin to obtain exit documents for the child (in accordance with embassy requirements).
Undergoing a paternity test (if required by the embassy).
Obtaining a passport or another travel document for exiting Ukraine / entering the country of future residence.
Departure abroad (the timeframe for obtaining exit documents can be inquired at the embassy of the country of residence).

Stages of surrogacy:

Couple Examination and stay in Kyiv:

a) 1-3 days – in the case of using donor oocytes – placing an order for the selection of oocyte donor. b) 2-3 weeks – in the case of using their own oocytes (arrival 1-2 days before natural or induced menstruation).

Sperm Freezing: Collection of 2-3 sperm samples with a 2-day interval.

Ovarian stimulation starting from the 2nd day of the patient’s or donor’s menstrual cycle – after donor’s approval by the prospective parents (approximately 12-14 days).

Oocyte retrieval, fertilization using the ICSI method, and departure home (in the case of the own stimulation).

Cultivation of embryos for 5-7 days.

Cryopreservation of embryos for preimplantation genetic testing using Next-Generation Sequencing for 24 chromosomes.

Genetic diagnosis of embryos (2-3 weeks).

Surrogate mother selection (2-4 weeks).

Surrogate mother examination (1 week).

Surrogate mother preparation for embryo transfer (1.5 months).

Embryo transfer.

Pregnancy test on the 12th day after embryo transfer.

If pregnancy occurs: pregnancy monitoring. (If no pregnancy occurs: a repeated embryo transfer).

What is the difference between IVF and surrogacy?

In IVF, a woman who wants to become a mother carries and gives birth to a child herself. In surrogacy programmes, an embryo obtained through in vitro fertilisation is transferred to the uterus of another woman - a surrogate mother, and after the birth, the child is given to the biological parents. A surrogate mother has no genetic relationship and no legal rights to the child she carries and gives birth to.

Will the partners be the biological parents of the surrogate child?

Yes, the partners who use the SM service will be the biological parents of the child born to a surrogate mother in Ukraine. For medical reasons, donor eggs or donor sperm may be used in SM programmes, in which case only one of the partners has a genetic relationship with the child. It is not possible to use both donor eggs and donor sperm in the same time in the SM programme.

Can a child be like a surrogate mother?

A child born to a surrogate mother cannot inherit her appearance.

What are the risks of using surrogacy?

The clear regulation of surrogacy programmes at the legislative level and the conclusion of a notarial agreement virtually eliminate legal risks, while careful selection and examination of surrogate mothers, monitoring their compliance with medical prescriptions during pregnancy, minimise the risks of miscarriage.
