CARRYING OUT IVF IN UKRAINE DURING MARTIAL LAW

Cryo-transfer in Ukraine

Cryo-transfer is the transfer of cryopreserved embryos into the uterus cavity. The embryo freezing is performed at the blastocyst stage, which increases the effectiveness of pregnancy. The standard IVF program with the cryo-transfer is divided into three phases:

  • administration of hormonal drugs, oocyte collection and sperm collection, fertilization, and cryopreservation of all or part of the embryos by vitrification,
  • storage of embryos in liquid nitrogen,
  • preparation for embryo transfer, thawing of all or part of the embryos, embryo transfer.

When is FET performed?

Cryo-transfer is usually performed 1-2 months after the embryos are produced (except for fertility programs, when it can be performed in many years or decades). A series of ultrasounds and blood tests will have to be done before the transfer to determine the most appropriate time for its conduction.

Cryo-transfer can be carried out:

  • in the stimulated menstrual cycle,
  • in a cycle controlled by hormone replacement therapy (HRT),
  • in the natural menstrual cycle.

For whom is cryo-transfer recommended?

The cryo-transfer is recommended for:

  • obtaining a large number of quality embryos
  • in the event of situations that may adversely affect the result (OHSS, fluid in the uterus, previously undiagnosed hydrosalpinx, etc.),
  • several unsuccessful IVF programs with the transfer of “fresh” embryos,
  • conducting stimulation protocols in reproductive function preservation programs that do not imply the transfer of “fresh” embryos

Positive aspects of cryo-transfer:

  • eliminates the negative effects of side effects from IVF, primarily OHSS,
  • there is no additional burden on the woman’s body from hormonal stimulation,
  • makes it possible to postpone embryo transfer for the required number of days, weeks, or months,
  • one stimulation sometimes allows several transfers.

In the case of transfer in the natural cycle, further development of the embryo takes place under conditions as close as possible to natural conditions (approximately 5-6 days after ovulation).
The success of Cryo-programs is higher due to the selection of the most full-value embryos for freezing. It should be taken into account that such a transfer increases the cost of treatment.
Therefore, at our clinic, Cryo-protocol is a good instrument to increase the chances of pregnancy for certain groups of patients.
