Embryos Cryopreservation in Ukraine
Embryo cryopreservation is done with the help of liquid nitrogen. At the temperature of –195.75 °C, reproductive cells retain their potential for decades.
However, before the invention of the ultra-fast freezing method at the beginning of the 21st century, only spermatozoa successfully tolerated freezing, and freezing rates of embryos and oocytes were pretty low.
A new innovative method helps to avoid the crystallization phase (crystal formation) and minimizes cell damage. It is called “vitrification” (from Latin vitreum, “glass” via French “vitrifier”). It has led to widespread use for embryo cryopreservation.
When is embryo cryopreservation carried out?
Most often, embryo cryopreservation is performed as part of an IVF program when more embryos are obtained than required for transfer to the uterus.
Also, couples may resort to embryo preservation in the following cases:
- one of the partners will have a treatment that could seriously affect the reproductive function or lead to its complete loss,
- the woman’s age is close to 35–40 and you are planning pregnancy and childbirth, but not shortly. This will allow you to become pregnant at a later time, as well as significantly reduce the chance of having a baby with a pathology
Carrying of a pregnancy after 40 is quite possible, but the ovarian reserve (oocyte count and quality) at this age is dramatically reduced.
Therefore, if you would like to do everything possible to maintain your reproductive chances and give birth to a genetically related child in the future, it is worth considering embryo or oocyte cryopreservation.

How is cryopreservation done?
Embryos can only be obtained as part of an in vitro fertilization program, which involves such stages as: examination, preparatory phase, administration of hormonal drugs, oocyte collection and sperm collection, fertilization and cryopreservation of all or part of the embryos by vitrification.
Embryo cryopreservation always occurs at the blastocyst stage.
What happens next?

This will prepare the uterus for the upcoming embryo transfer.

For married couples failing to conceive, it is possible to use the services of a surrogate mother for the achievement of pregnancy.
